Kenya: Student Poised to Tread Ajuma Path

Aboard a Virgin Atlantic flight from New York, Kenya's only supermodel Ajuma Nasenyana had one thing in mind - the desire to have a fellow Kenyan join her on the international modelling circuit.

In fact, it is this desire that made her accept the invitation to come to grace the grand finale of the MNet Catwalk Kenya contest.

Business FYI: Bryant Law Firm to join GableGotwals

Bryant Law Firm has announced plans to join GableGotwals effective Dec. 1.

Five professionals -- David Bryant, Craig Fitzgerald, Robert J. Carlson, Rhonda E. Milligan and Ashley D. Andrews -- will join the firm's Tulsa office at 1100 Oneok Plaza.

"We believe this move is a perfect fit, as it allows us to complement the talented team of business litigators at GableGotwals," said Bryant, who will become a shareholder of GableGotwals. "This also allows us to greatly expand our ability to serve our clients' needs in complex business cases or in matters other than litigation."

Bryant spent the first 16 years of his business litigation practice at GableGotwals. Fitzgerald has practiced law in Tulsa for more than 15 years, and will also be a GableGotwals shareholder.

Struggles for Township Marketplace in Center about to end

CENTER TWP. — While new stores and shopping centers spring up around it, the Township Marketplace in Center Township has struggled a bit recently. The 10-year-old strip mall has suffered some since the Shop ’n Save grocery there closed last year — and that suffering continued this week when a Quizno’s restaurant next door shut down. That’s about to change.Work started this week to convert the 44,000-square-foot space left by the departed grocery into an Office Depot and a Circuit City, which will fill the biggest hole in the strip mall’s lineup. Frank Vescio, Center Township’s development coordinator, said the mall’s owner, Cleveland-area real estate firm Developers Diversified Realty, has obtained the permits it needs from the township and could have the new stores open by January."I haven’t seen the plans yet, but there probably isn’t a whole lot of work to do," Vescio said.

ONSTAGE & BACKSTAGE: Burns, Jenkins, Shindle and the Strike

Oy! The strike! It's so bizarre that I'm in one of the few shows running. It's not like I chose to do The Ritz because I knew it would be immune from the strike, it just arbitrarily worked out that way.

I'm hoping by the time you read this, all the Broadway shows will be back on. Actually, why don't I add more to that wish. I hope all the Broadway shows will be back on, including some that have closed. That's right. Not only Rent, Hairspray and Drowsy Chaperone, I want to see Evita with Patti LuPone and Drood with Betty Buckley ASAP. Local One, that's what you need to focus on while negotiating.

This week began with a benefit for Only Make Believe, a great organization founded by Dena Hammerstein (Jamie's widow) that brings theatre to hospitalized children. It was great to see Julia Murney again, fresh off of Wicked.
