| Santa's biggest fans
Santa Claus has always had his detractors. They wonder aloud whether his belly is ample enough, his beard convincingly attached, his "ho ho ho" sufficiently jolly. Some go so far in their skepticism as to contend, "I know he doesn't exist." That direct quote emerged from the lips of one 10-year-old boy Saturday morning The Bee is not naming him in the hopes that he can remain on Mr. Claus' "good" list. But while some at Sacramento's 25th annual Santa Parade were vocal in their critiques of Mr. Claus, the majority who turned up Saturday appeared to be true believers. .
Barbie girls swarm store in Buenos Aires
The idea came to Tito Loizeau in a Buenos Aires shopping mall three years ago: Build a Barbie-themed store, and little girls and their parents' money will follow. Loizeau's company had set up a small House of Barbie promotion for Mattel inside the mall. He was astounded by the reaction: Girls waited for hours to get in, and mothers made offers on clothes he'd hung up for decoration never mind that they didn't have anything to do with Barbie. "It would be a pink shirt you could buy anywhere in the mall," Loizeau said, "but they'd want the shirt because it was associated with Barbie." So he set out to open the world's first Barbie "fashion-tainment" store, where girls can get glittery hairdos and makeup at the Barbie beauty parlor or try on gowns and play with dolls in the Barbie playroom, all while parents nibble pink desserts in the Barbie cafe.

Halloween fest at Camden Children's Garden
Ghosts, skeletons and fairy princesses ruled the Camden Children's Garden over the weekend as the waterfront attraction hosted its 8th annual Goblins in the Garden festival. The Halloween event gears up for the garden's popular holiday schedule, including a Train Festival on Nov. 10 and Festival of Lights, which runs Fridays and Saturdays from Nov. 24 through Dec. 29. While rain on Saturday kept many people away, dozens turned out Sunday afternoon as temperatures approached 60 degrees under a bright blue sky. "They always have a good time," said Joe Bradley, of West Deptford, who came Sunday afternoon with his wife, Beth, and three daughters. "We come for the events." Seven-year-old Kylie Bradley was dressed like a "bad fairy" complete with black lipstick, while her 4-year-old sister Katie came as the good fairy Tinkerbell.
Big field on tap for Mrs. Revere
Today's Mrs. Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs came up so strong that trainer Frankie Brothers seriously considered scratching one of the favorites -- Bruce Lunsford's Bel Air Beauty -- to run her in next week's Cardinal Handicap against older horses. Bel Air Beauty is the 4-1 second choice in the $150,000, Grade II race for 3-year-old turf fillies. She'll be taking on the 2-1 favorite, Bit of Whimsy, winner of Keeneland's Grade I Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup. .
