Grace, tenacity and Thanksgiving

The more the former Army Colonel tries to fight back his tears, the more he melts into his easy chair. Years of pent-up emotion he cant engage with a rifle or a right cross quickly explode into words about a fight for his daughters life, and a mission to choke out a rare disease.

Carl Hicks, 54, wears his heart on his sleeve as he starts to unfold his first-borns life with his wife, Mary Jan, in the den of their modest Gig Harbor home.

The cliffhanger ending is playing out right before their eyes, as their daughter, 26-year-old Meaghan Hicks, sleeps soundly, just 10 feet away complete with a new heart and pair of donated lungs.

A few things become quite evident in Carls often quivering voice.

Meaghans story is intense. Shes very lucky to be alive. This year, the Hicks family Thanksgiving Day holiday will be extra special.

Strachan content with progress of Boruc talks

CELTIC manager Gordon Strachan insists he has no fears over goalkeeper Artur Boruc's future at Parkhead. The 27-year-old still has two years to run on his current contract with the option of an extra year should both parties agree to an extension.

But recent reports suggested the Pole was growing impatient as he waits for a new offer from the Glasgow outfit. On the eve of their CIS Insurance Cup quarter-final meeting with Hearts, Strachan said: "We offered him talks at the beginning of the season and that is ongoing. We were the ones that instigated them and at the moment it's going great with (chief executive) Peter Lawwell and Artur so that's fine."
